New Look for the Blog

Let me know if you prefer this new look to the old one--some readers complained, fairly I think, that the old format was hard to read, and that the links were hard to find. Thanks. Happy New Year to all readers!

For what it's worth, I never had a problem with the old format and found it more pleasing to the eye.

The new look is a slight improvement, but I think it would be a lot better if you moved your blog to wordpress. Imo, the only advantage blogger has over wordpress is that one can easily blog to it by email.

It is easy to import the blog into wordpress, if only to test it and see if you like it. Go to brianleiter or brianleiternietzsche.wordpress.com to register (I've checked: both are available).

I agree with Gorm; however, if you remain with Blogger, I would suggest adding the 'Recent Comments' feature, which might encourage more activity.

I would like "Recent comments" to appear in the sidebar, but I don't know how to do it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I have a general Nietzsche question and don't know where precisely on this site to post it. So I'll put it here -- and will happily take it elsewhere, if instructed.

Anyhow, my question is where does Nietzsche address Plato's "Noble Lie"? I recall reading that he addresses it somewhere have found some attention to it in the Nachlass. Is that the only place? Or are there other discussions?

Thanks!
David

David,

In TI ("Improvers", 5), BGE 105, GM 3.19, and in AC, among other places, Nietzsche invokes the notion of the 'noble lie', but none of these, it seems to me, are as concerned with directly addressing it as using it to develop the point about self-awareness and honesty developed in TI "Skirmishes" 18 (e.g. TSZ: "Whoever cannot lie does not know what truth is"). I'm guessing you might have better luck in his early writings (e.g. "Greek State", HH chapter "Glance at the State") and unpublished stuff.

Others, I hope, will have better suggestions.

This look is much better. I struggled to read some of your posts. I don't have the best of eyes...

I found a help page that shows how to have recent comments show up in the sidebar. The address is below.

Timothy: thanks very much for this, and your other comments. I'm trying to figure out how to implement this so comments appear on the sidebar.

I followed the instructions they provide and it did not work on one of my blogs. I believe it is because I started my blogs recently an they are a newer version with the "layouts" function. The help provided at the link above is for blogs without the layout function. I suspect you will have the same problem. It seems like the technicians have some work to do here.
