Just want to clarify the program for the Oct. 17 concert: The bulk of the songs have texts by Nietzsche but the music is written by other composers. There are 2 pieces for which Nietzsche composed the music, and as a comparison to Nietzsche's songs, there is a set of songs written by his contemporary, Peter Gast, whom Nietzsche considered to be one of the best composers of song at the time.
There will be a short lecture at the beginning of the concert. The lecture will explore Nietzsche and his relationship with music. This lecture was originally presented this past June at the Nietzscheforum in Munich, Germany.
